Borneo Safari 2010 - Special Stages 1 & 2

Although I missed the opportunity to go full BS2010 expedition, it is good that the first two Special Stages (SS) were started near Kota Kinabalu. So, many of the enthusiast photographers got the opportunity to shoot some of the extreme off road challenge in Borneo Safari. The venue for the SS1 and SS2 is Bukit Vor in Putatan. It is actually big stone quarry. Taking photos of the action  under the hot sun is not easy, but nothing can stop the temptation to get the shoot. I had already prepared since some previous 4x4 challenges to wear a good shoes, hand protector and large hat. I also have an umbrella and small folding chair. Camera in use: Olympus E-1 + 12-60mm The location of SS1 & SS2 - Bukit Vor Putatan, one can see the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park Islands at the background Some of the extreme modified 4x4 ready for the challenge Checking the SS1 deep water crossing SS2 rock crawling The Aircraft is about to do a landing at KKIA. The seven-day convoy will go through the pristine rainforest, forest reserve, wildlife corridors, long abandoned timber tracks and the  buffer zone, Maliau Basin. Event theme for this year's BS2010 is awareness on conservation, nature and wildlife. The best thing for photographer is the photography competition during the event which related to the theme with attractive prize to be given away.     Feel free to go to Borneo Safari's Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Borneo-Safari/119030938146256 Approximate path from KK to Tawau for BS2010 Actually I was invited to join a team as support car crew member and acting as the team photographer. However, when I ready to pack my gears and clothing to join the crew, I finally unable to proceed to do my dream expedition. Its due to misunderstanding on registration where I did not registered by the team as participant to follow the support car crew member. I can just go but its my responsibility if anything happen. The New Toyota Hilux 3.0G Roadshow - 1Borneo, Kota Kinabalu Sabah

Kota Kinabalu was the launching ground of the new variation of Hilux 3.0G as reported in paultan.org on October 7. I visited their roadshow at 1Borneo on 10.10.2010 just to take some photos of the beast. After years other makers such as Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Mazda produce their 3.0cc, Toyota finally decided to join the higher cc race and further strengthen Toyota market share for double-cab segment. The SJ410

In a process to restore the old and rusty sj to used in normal road and some offroad. Anyway, I have just bought a new 1" wheel spacer because my current tires (235/75/R15) hit the front chassis and leaf springs when fully turned to right or left.     Tip of Kinabalu seen in the background..

Olympus Camera with "Soul" - Tribute to Olympus E-1

Robin in his Olympus E-5 review has attracted lots of attentions among the camera community around the world.  His photos are remarkable. The most important is on the street review is pretty interesting with his photography and editing style.  I don't care the technical review or side-by side comparison with other camera. I think what  important is the capability of the camera in the actual environment. However people with specific requirements may still need to look at the technical review. Speaking of "soul" in camera, it is a very subjective term to describe and will vary based on individual preference. I can feel what he meant by the E-5 has  "soul". That bonds the person together with the camera and making photography even easier and fun. Thus, the person will keep coming back to the "soul" mate. In my experience so far, the Olympus E-1 has a great "soul" camera for me. The feeling of holding and using the E-1 is like the camer
